Sha Toujiao Border Crossing is located at the west of Sha Toujiao in Yantian District of Shenzhen City, which is an auxiliary passenger and cargo integrated border crossing serving Yantian District of Shenzhen City, Longgang District and the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta Region, and was opened to the outside world in September 1984 with the approval of the State Council, and was completed and put into use in March 1985, and opened on 28th January 2005, with the opening of a new cross-border bridge at the border. The existing Sha Tau Kok Boundary Control Point adopts the mode of co-location of immigration and customs clearance, with a design passenger flow of 0.15 million passenger trips per day and a design vehicular capacity of 0.15 million vehicle trips per day.

Sha Tau Kok Boundary Control Point has been in use for about 40 years. After close communication between the port authorities of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the redevelopment of Sha Tau Kok Boundary Control Point will be based on a design parameter of 40,000 passenger trips/day and 2,500 vehicle trips/day, with a 26-fold increase in the designed clearance capacity. In the future, Sha Tau Kok Boundary Control Point will abolish its cargo function and be rebuilt as a purely travel control point, which will further optimise the functional layout of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Boundary Control Point and support the construction of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Consumption Co-operation Zone at Sha Tau Kok. At present, the demolition works of the Sha Tau Kok Boundary Control Point have already commenced.
